Structure of a Sash Window

1. Cord Pulley and Weights
We use nylon cord pulleys for their longevity, plastic covered lead weights are used to counterbalance the weight of the sash ensuring easier use and comply with Health and Safety requirements.

2. Draught Exclusion
Brush pile draught excluders are incorporated reducing the risk of draughts entering your household by a minimum of 90-95%.

3. New Sash and Windows
We use quality softwood timber to construct our new sashes. We apply micro-porous paint ensuring the durability of the timber.

4. Glazing Bar
We individually glaze each pane of glass separating them with glazing bars. We do not stick glazing bars onto the glass as a general rule unless required.

5. Double Glaze Options
All our double glazing is fitted with low-e energy glass which reflects heat back into the room, keeping it warm and reducing your energy costs.

6. Low E Energy Glass
This prevents internal heat from escaping, reducing your heating bills.
7. Acoustic Glass
This special acoustic laminated safety glass is decibel rated and more effective than a double glazed unit, reflecting noise and making your home quieter.

8. 'D' Handle & Sash Lifts
Placed in the centre they enable you to easily open and close the sash windows and are an attractive feature.

9. Centre Catch
The centre catch enables you to lock the window.

10. Security Lock
We fit security locks to the right and left of our windows improving security and complying with insurance regulations. You can also lock the window in a position that allows air to flow in and out of the room creating a fresh environment whilst keeping security for peace of mind.

1. How the windows are built with high quality timber
Structure of a Window 2.jpg  Our team follow traditional methods first used over 300 years ago. Once the survey is completed we instruct the Joiners to make the components required for your sashes. All work is carried out in our workshop at Bramley Hedge Farm enabling us to monitor progress on a daily basis. We can manufacture new windows and doors out of Softwood, Hardwood or European Oak.

2. Preservatives
All new timber is treated against woodworm. Wet and dry rot preservative is applied before painting which extends the life of the timber.

3. All our sash windows are idividually glazed
Due to our glazing bars being an integral part of the sash window rather than being stuck on, each glass section is individually glazed. This means if you break a pane of glass, only the broken pane needs to be replaced, and not the whole unit as is the case when glazing bars are stuck on. This saves you money and worry in the future. 5. Window Furniture and Security
Nothing reduces the security of your home like a tired sash window. New furniture will serve to increase your security level itself. For added peace of mind, we install key operated sash stops, with provision to open up to 100mm for ventilation. Structure of a Window 5.jpg
